We foster healthy parent-child relationships that will last a lifetime.
Our Approach
Parenting by Connection
is Hand in Hand’s approach to fostering close,
responsive relationships between parents and children.
This approach is based on the principles of respect,
listening, leadership development and the importance of interpersonal
connections. We help parents and professionals gain perspective on their
work and give them tools to build stronger connections within their families,
in their work and in their communities.
Parents face many challenges throughout their parenting careers. Parenting by Connection addresses these key issues, and gives parents the tools they need to overcome these obstacles.
Our Organization
Hand in Hand is a non-profit organization, founded
in 1989 by Patty Wipfler and governed
by a volunteer Board of Directors.

At present, Hand in Hand employs a Director and a Program Assistant.
Hand in Hand-trained Parent Leaders work on a contract basis to provide classes,
conduct training courses, and give talks to parent groups and professionals
in English and Spanish. Meet our staff.
Our administrative offices are in Palo Alto, California.
Our Programs and Services
We offer talks, classes, workshops, support group, leadership training courses, and one-on-one consultations for both parents and
professionals throughout California and beyond. California
counties with active Hand in Hand affiliates include Alameda, Contra Costa, Sonoma,
San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
Hand in Hand speakers and leaders can be brought to your organization
or parent group by arrangement. We can tailor talks, classes or trainings
to the specific needs of your group or organization. We also provide individual

Dozens of corporations, public agencies, non-profit agencies, schools, and parent co-operatives trust Hand in Hand to educate and support parents and their families. Please see our partial client list, or contact us for additional references.
Our Literature
Hand in Hand literature, written by Patty
Wipfler, reaches throughout the U.S. and to other countries. Her booklets
draw upon the experience of hundreds of parents and children. To date,
we have sold and distributed over 350,000 booklets, and have audiotapes
and videotapes available in English and Spanish.
The Hand in Hand booklets have been translated into Spanish and 9 other languages.
Dozens of online articles addressing specific parenting
issues are also available.
Connecting! —
the Hand in Hand email newsletter
Each issue of Connecting!, published every 6 weeks, includes an article on a key issue
for parents, a list of upcoming events, and a short success story from
a parent who applied the principles of Parenting
