Talk for Caregivers: Strategies for Helping Children with Challenging Behaviors (Monterey, CA)

Led by Executive Director, Patty Wipfler
This talk will present an overview of the emotional roots of challenging behaviors, and how to move from seeing a child's problem to seeing and addressing a child's unmet needs. I'll outline three overall strategies for handling the most common challenging behaviors, aggression and lack of ability to share. And I'll provide examples of how parents and teachers have worked together to employ these strategies to lift the difficult behavior from the child, helping him relax, feel safer, and play more fully and thoughtfully with others. We'll leave a good amount of time for questions, and resources will be offered, both free and in booklets for purchase, so caregivers can follow the ideas up with more information for themselves and the families they serve. The talk will be aimed at those caring for children 5 and under, but the strategies offered work well with older children as well.
