Leadership Training
Leadership Training for ParentsA six to eight-week course that helps parents develop the skills to
lead their families well. Introduces Parenting
by Connection, a framework for building close, respectful relationships
between parents and children. Each class is a combination of new information,
feedback and hands-on practice with Listening Tools.
Participants learn to use Listening Partnerships and listening in small
groups to address the stresses of parenting and build support for the
initiatives they take in their families. As part of the training, a parent/child
playtime is sometimes arranged to provide mentoring in the use of Listening
Tools with children.
Leadership Training for ProfessionalsAn eight-week course designed for professionals who lead or work
with parents and young children. Introduces a broad perspective on parenting
and key issues for parents. Introduces Listening Tools that help professionals
earn the trust of parents and set conditions that promote positive change
in the lives of the parents they serve. Racism and other societal patterns
of oppression are addressed, with the goal of bridging differences and
building alliances between staff, parents, and community decision-makers.
Each class is a combination of new information, experience-sharing and
hands-on practice with Listening Tools. Participants learn to use a Listening
Partnership and a support group, as well as other adult-to-adult Listening
Tools. These tools facilitate good working relationships and more effective
advocacy on behalf of families. Participants are also introduced to Parenting
by Connection, and gain experience using Listening Tools within
their families.
