Do you identify as ‘Desi’ or South Asian* and as a mother?
Do you wish for a safe, nonjudgmental parenting space where your Desi-ness needn’t be explained?
Do you wish for support around learning and un-learning ways of parenting to meet the needs of our children better?
If you found yourself nodding all the way, then this support circle is for you! Parenting against the general grain is hard as it is. Parenting with and against generations of South Asian parenting brings up some unique strengths and challenges.
Let us come together, learn the listening partnership tool of the Hand in Hand parenting model, build community via listening with other Desi mothers and experience the joy and benefits it brings you and your parenting. Traditional South Asian parenting is a collective effort. Let us return to this beautiful quality to feel our individual strength and spirit within this collective. No prior experience and knowledge with Hand in Hand parenting tools necessary for participation.

Priya is a first generation Desi mom of a teenager who lives, works and plays on Duwamish lands (Seattle, USA), and identifies as neurodivergent. She is a child therapist, founder of Desi Parent Village, and a recent co-author of the book ‘Parenting at the Intersections: Raising Neurodivergent Children of color’. This group will be facilitated in English.

Hand in Hand provides programs for all people who are caring for children in any capacity. We occasionally offer specialized programs for people in particular caregiving roles and/or identity groups to provide support specific to their experiences. This event is for any person who self-identifies as a Desi (South Asian)* Mom**.
*The South Asian region consists of the countries of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka
**Trans and gender-expansive Desi moms welcome!
