Do you ever wish that your child had arrived with a ‘How To Parent Me’ manual?
Are there sticky parenting issues that crop up, again and again? Or have you entered a whole new stage with new issues that you’re not sure how to navigate?
Do you find yourself feeling like you’re the only one dealing with challenges like this?

For over 30 years, Hand in Hand Parenting has been supporting parents to understand their children's behaviour and build deeply connected relationships that last a lifetime. We know that every family is unique and that with sufficient support each parent can figure out what will work best in their specific situation. The five Listening Tools that we share with parents are easy to learn and hugely effective. They have transformed lives around the world, helping parents to connect well with their children, bring more play and joy into their lives and guide their children towards ever greater emotional resilience.

During this eight week version of the Starter Class we will explore the Hand in Hand approach in a well structured and supportive group. Every week we'll meet over Zoom to explore one of the Hand in Hand tools in detail and answer your questions to help you with whatever's going on in your home right now. We’ve included two ‘bonus’ weeks for consolidation, so that you’ll have plenty of time to learn, experiment and get the support you deserve.

This online course is led by two certified Hand in Hand instructors, Alice Ritch (Shetland Islands) and Lara Zane (London). Between them, Alice and Lara have five school-aged children and a broad range of professional and parenting experience including music therapy, teaching, neurodiversity and home educating. Although they are raising their children 600 miles apart in very different communities, they have been able to connect and support each other through many common struggles. Alice and Lara are both passionate about helping other families and sharing this approach. They are delighted to be able to work together to offer this class to parents worldwide and are looking forward to meeting new folk and sharing these wonderful tools.

Lara says:
“As we develop a deeper understanding of connection and the root causes of off-track behaviour in our children (and ourselves), it becomes easier to make the changes we want for our families. There is no special magic here (though at times it can feel like there is), no ‘parents who have this thing nailed while the rest of us struggle’. Quite simply, when we dare to be honest with ourselves and each other we realise that we all have both strengths and things we struggle with, and we all need and deserve good support. We parents deeply want the best for our children. Choosing to get that support and deepen our skills and knowledge is an act of love and courage and a gift to our families that can last a lifetime. I know of no parenting approach more respectful, effective and supportive than Hand in Hand which is why I’m so passionate about sharing it with other parents.”

Alice adds:
“On top of all the usual demands, the past eighteen months have brought so many extra challenges for parents. The connections and support networks that many of us were able to draw on in our local communities have been in short supply. This feels like the perfect time to offer this Hand in Hand Starter Class that focuses on what matters most – building strong, connected relationships with our children. The course will offer you practical down to earth tools to help build your confidence in your own parenting but this is more than just another parenting method. The Hand in Hand Parenting approach is way ahead of its time in terms of trauma informed, compassionate parenting. The starter class brings together a huge body of knowledge from the real experiences of parents from all over the world who have dared to dive deeper into the emotional work of parenting.”

Whether you are dealing with babies or tweens, are new to Hand in Hand or have been using it for a few years already and are just now ready to take a class, you will become more confident in your parenting, calmer at navigating the inevitable tricky moments and discover new ways to support your children and yourself, whatever life brings.

By the end of this course you will:
❤Have a much better understanding of what drives your child’s behaviour

Here's what parents have said about what it's been like to work with Lara and Alice:

“I've really enjoyed the Hand in Hand Parenting classes with Lara. She is warm and kind, creating a lovely safe space in the group to listen and share. I am learning a lot about myself and my children and the parenting techniques Lara teaches us have been eye opening and empowering. The weekly classes have been an oasis of calm during lockdown and the Zoom format works really well. It is so reassuring to know that you aren't alone in your parenting challenges and that there's support out there.”

“Alice has been fantastic. She introduced the tools and has offered her own experiences which really helped to understand how the tools can be implemented in day-to-day life. She was incredibly supportive and I feel empowered to be a positive and mindful parent. As a group leader she was excellent. Really friendly, approachable and knowledgeable.”

“The course in general and working with you in particular has been amazing. It is completely changing the way I parent and look at the role of being a parent. You create a kind, empathetic and respectful environment within which we can all explore the demands and frustrations, and equip us with the tools to deal with these in a gentler and more playful manner. I have found it to be a moving and powerful thing to be a part of, and can’t thank you enough for the gift you offer.”

“Attending this Hand in Hand parenting course has been a total life-changer for me. It has given me back a sense of confidence in my parenting, helping me to regain feelings of joy in my interactions with my twin boys. The sensitive, non-judgmental approach has allowed me to gently unfold my fears and worries around being a Mum. She offers a safe, supportive environment in which to share and learn. I am bowled over by the simple yet very effective tools taught on this course and I love that it is underpinned by brain science.”

The focus each week is as follows:
Week 1: General information about the Hand in Hand approach, the importance of connection and our tool for parents, Listening Partnerships. We also get to know each other and build safety within the group.
Week 2: Understanding your child’s emotions and Staylistening – how to help your child when they are upset.
Week 3: Special Time – proactively build deep, connective relationships and reduce tricky behaviour as a result. And, why do we ‘lose it’ as parents?
Week 4: Consolidation week 1. Time to take stock and settle into new patterns.
Week 5: Setting Limits – why does children’s behaviour go off track? Learn how to set limits warmly and effectively to help them.
Week 6: Understanding children’s ‘emotional projects’ and Playlistening – using play and laughter as a way to build connection and confidence or resolve tricky situations.
Week 7: Consolidation week 2 – Getting to grips with using all the tools in an integrated way.
Week 8: Putting it all together, building support and planning for the future.

The course costs £330 which includes the weekly zoom calls and a dedicated WhatsApp group for questions and support during the eight weeks. You’ll also get lifetime access to an online classroom with excellent videos and reading material to support your learning by Patty Wipfler, Hand in Hand Parenting’s inspirational founder.

Payment by installments is welcomed and we encourage anyone seeking this support to reach out to us as we may be able to offer a bursary for those in genuine need. Co-parenting couples are warmly encouraged to join and there is a 20% discount for the second parent, making it £595 per couple.

You’ll need a quiet, private space with high speed internet to join the Zoom video calls and you’ll get the most from the course if you allow time to make use of the online classroom each week and practice the skills with your children.

Each class will last 1 hour, 45 minutes and begins at 8.15pm UK time / 3.15pm Eastern USA / 12.15pm Pacific on the following dates: 25 October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 November 6, 13 December
