Limit setting is “right in the centre” of parenting – it’s something you have to do several times a day.  When it goes well, you might hardly notice.  When it goes badly, it feels like hard work. What if there was an easier way?

For most of us, limits were set in a way that put distance between us and our parents.  Now that we are parents, we call on this experience when we have to set limits for our children.  It often comes out harsher, meaner, louder, and more forcefully than is really necessary.

There is a way of setting limits with your children that

• provides  “course correction”; and
• improves their sense of connection and closeness with you; and
• lets you short-circuit power struggles by “letting go” rather than “fighting harder”.
