Here's what Emmy says:
Sometimes life feels challenging and we don't know what to do. A good listener can help.
From working with people for many years, I have come to believe that everyone is born with certain qualities, including intelligence, natural zest and a cooperative and loving nature. These qualities become obscured, or blocked, as a result of hurtful and confusing experiences, beginning early in our lives.
When our concerns are addressed in the presence of a skillful listener, we are gradually released from the rigid patterns of irrational behavior, freeing our basic, loving, intelligent nature. This leads to a more satisfying life, better relationships, school or career improvements, more attention available for reaching our goals, more fun in our lives.
I have worked successfully with hundreds of people, helping them overcome anxiety, sadness, difficult relationships, the effects of infidelity , trauma, sexual mistreatment and abuse, isolation, lack of motivation and procrastination, family problems, substance use and gambling problems, everyday life stress and more.
I offer individual, couple, family and group therapy as well as classes and support groups for parents. Since each individual (child or adult) and family presents a unique set of circumstances, we can discuss which form is best suited to your needs.
I specialize in working with people who would like to try solving their problems without the use of psychiatric medications. I have found that, with enough support and information, people who wish to, can succeed in gradually coming off of their medications, and I can collaborate with your doctor if this is your goal. In addition, I work with people who have decided to use psychiatric drugs and would like to add counseling to their treatment.
