My name is Juliet and I live in Manhattan with my daughter and partner. I came to Hand in Hand after searching for support for myself as a parent and only finding advice or methods that focused on changing my or my child’s behavior without addressing the underlying tension in doing that. I knew there had to be something out there that discussed how emotionally and psychically difficult parenting was. I was so relieved to find that Hand in Hand not only focused on support for parents, but also real emotional support for the difficulties children experience too. I started using Hand in Hand tools in 2013 when my daughter was three and felt so moved by my experience of sitting with her feelings, tuning into her and into myself, that I felt strongly that I could start building world peace by becoming a Hand in Hand Instructor! If everyone could experience being listened to and loved without judgment – how many lives could we save from the violence that erupts from being hurt and disconnected? Now my daughter is hitting her tweens, and the road to peace is lit by Hand in Hand. I am forever grateful to feel resourced and deeply connected to myself, and my daughter!
My background is varied – raised by activist parents, anti-oppression work has been a constant thread; I was trained in crisis counseling and managed a rape crisis line after college; I was trained as an actor, so theater and the arts are home for me; I have a non-traditional family; and lastly, working to build sustainable communities in the face of climate change takes a central place in my life. I hope you will join my community of parents in NYC.
