Being introduced to Hand in Hand Parenting when her oldest daughter was nearly three years old was a transformative experience for Susan Derby, deepening connections within her family, making her more confident about setting respectful limits, and opening her up to the importance of securing emotional support for herself as a mom.
A Certified Instructor, Susan is thrilled to be able to share the Parenting by Connection tools with moms and dads through support groups, talks, workshops, and one-on-one consultations.
In addition to helping families with challenges like sleep issues, bed-wetting, fussy eating, and limit-breaking, she enjoys meeting with working parents to offer specific strategies that can help them strengthen their connection with their young children. As a full-time working mom throughout her oldest daughter’s early years, she knows the difficulties inherent in the quest for a work-life balance.
Susan holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. In addition to supporting parents, she works as a writer, with one of her main niches in the publishing field being travel. She has written for Lonely Planet and Los Angeles Times, among other publications. Born in Japan, raised in Southern California, and a fan of many places around the world, Susan lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, and their two daughters.
