“It’s Mine!” Helping Children with Sharing and Generosity, with Shelley Macy

When children can’t share, we parents and caregivers want to fix the problem quickly! But fixing it—saying whose turn it is and timing the turns so they are “fair,” for instance—turns us into enforcers and often results in two unsatisfied children. A child’s need for the blue shovel may be ensured, five minutes at a time, but the deeper need to feel seen, heard, and connected to others still throbs. At this Hand in Hand seminar for parents and other adults who work with and nurture children, we will look at why children may struggle with sharing, and we will suggest skills you can develop that will move children to being able and empowered to share and enjoy their friends more.
